Outer Banks Weekend Itinerary (2 Days)
A weekend is enough for the northern beaches plus one full sightseeing day. The trick is arriving Friday evening rather than Saturday morning, which is when the Wright Memorial Bridge turns into a parking lot.

Day 1 — North beaches and Duck
Slow morning on the sand, village evening.
- •Beach morning in Kitty Hawk or Duck — quieter accesses than Nags Head
- •Lunch and browsing along the Duck town boardwalk, which runs right along the sound
- •Late afternoon: Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla and the Whalehead grounds at Currituck Heritage Park
- •Sunset picnic on the Heritage Park lawn, then dinner in Duck
Day 2 — First flight, dunes and Roanoke Island
The greatest-hits day, in the order that avoids crowds.
- •Wright Brothers National Memorial right at opening
- •Lunch on the Manteo waterfront and a walk through Fort Raleigh National Historic Site
- •Jockey's Ridge State Park in the late afternoon
- •Sunset at the Bodie Island Lighthouse boardwalk before the drive home
Driving, ferries and timing
- •Arrive Friday evening; the Saturday-morning inbound backup at the Wright Memorial Bridge can cost you two hours in July.
- •Book Saturday dinner two weeks out for anything on the water in Duck or Manteo.
- •Both days stay north of Oregon Inlet — no ferry, no long NC-12 drives.
