What you'll see from the air
Depending on the route, scenic flights over the Outer Banks reveal the barrier-island geography, dune fields at Jockey's Ridge, the black-and-white bands of Bodie Island Lighthouse, historic shipwrecks visible through clear coastal water, Oregon Inlet and the Marc Basnight Bridge, and the fishing village patterns of Wanchese and Manteo.
Why helicopter sightseeing is different
Helicopters fly lower and slower than fixed-wing airplanes and can turn in tight arcs around landmarks. That means better photos, better views of individual sites like lighthouses and shipwrecks, and a much more intimate perspective on the coastline than you get from a plane.
